A clutch system is a device that couples the engine to the transmission. Typically these are found on vehicles with manual transmissions, but some late model cars use a clutch to engage and disengage the transmission for better fuel economy. A clutch is composed of a material similar to a brake pad, and over time, this material wears away. When a clutch wears too thin, the engine won’t solidly engage the transmission and it will “slip.” This can leave you stranded, and waiting for a tow truck! In most cases, the transmission must be removed to access and replace the clutch, and that can be costly. It’s important to have your clutch replaced by a skilled technician, so you don’t have to revisit a prematurely worn clutch. If you think your clutch is worn or slipping, give us a call! Our skilled technicians are experienced with clutch replacements, and will be happy to advise you on the best course of action.
